Some jump in when they've had enough

On the run from a planet earth jail

This chap hopped on an astronaut snail

Drones and helicopters sped right by

Never suspecting something so slow in the sky

So instead of a life spent behind bars

This chap will forever float gently by stars

Phil loved to stare at Bill sucking up shapes into his rim

With a sweet, sad longing for the next one to be him

Floating Balls

Sometimes balls float in front of me

They're not the kind of balls that others can see

I catch them with my hands and pull them in near

I can hear so many sounds when I hold them to my ear

While colors and shapes dance all around the sphere

Then I feel the ball start to pull away

Heading back to the bowling alley before the end of the day

Catfish Leon came from Arkansas

He could take on any paw and fight off any claw

He was the father of 30 and the husband of 8

And always put food upon everyone's plate

Once a year he'd step up and brag,

"One day I'm gonna be on a black, white & green catfish flag

Psilocybin Day At The Office

Every Friday my teenage daughter packs my lunch for work. Once or twice a year (usually in summer) she spikes my peppermint tea with psilocybin. I find out about a half hour after I’m done eating! I quietly clean my desk, close my briefcase and tell my boss that I just vomited in the bathroom and need to head home. I call my wife and tell her I have to work late. 

Today (!) I walked down to the river and sat, leaning against a tree, staring at the sunlight dancing on the water and the ants working all around me until it got dark and the moon could walk me home. 

I quietly stepped into the apartment and tapped my daughter’s shoulder. She looked up and took out her earbuds. “Thanks!” I whispered. “Sure,” she sparkled. I headed for the fridge and made a perfect peanut butter sandwich! Then I lied down on the carpet nose to nose with Trix (our sweet mutt) and rested my hand on the back of her soft head while staring at her twitching face. 

I woke up in the dark, alone, under a blanket my mom crocheted for us. I pulled the blanket over my head and fell back to sleep.
